The company was founded in 1997 as a spin-off from ETH Zurich (Federal Institute of Technology), employs 7 people, all Ph.D. scientists and has its development center in Zurich, Switzerland. Upstream Solutions’s products and services are sold worldwide.
	Our Goal and Philosophy
	We provide the scientist with software tools to generate information from chemical data. We talk the chemist’s language: Input and/or output are chemical formulas. We integrate our tools in standard environments to make them available within the software packages chemists used to work with. We intend the power of our tools to be spectacular instead of their appearance. We implement the latest research results from leading scientists and from our own investigations. The programs run on PCs with standard operating systems.
	Our Competence
	Upstream Solutions’s employees hold all Ph.D. degrees in chemistry with emphasis on chemometrics and structure elucidation problems. They all have worked several years in the field of computer programming and combine technical skills, know-how, and experience. The knowledge acquired on the programming side covers: C++, Java, Unix, Matlab, Microsoft Windows, web applications, databases. And on the chemical side covers: Spectroscopy, spectrum processing, spectrum prediction, data processing, chemical structure processing. There is a close relationship with the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, where research and development results are shared.

	Prediction of spectra UpSol PredictNMR: Prediction of 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR shift values based on additivity rules. Seamless integration in widespread molecule editors like CambridgeSoft’s ChemDraw, MDL’s ISIS/Draw or standalone with UpSol JUME Editor. Prediction of lipophilicity UpSol TLogP: Estimation of log Kow of uncharged organic compounds using topological and substructure coding. Automatic model building based on user data. Standalone with UpSol JUME Editor. Structure generator UpSol Assemble: Automated structure generation of all chemically meaningful structures from structural fragments and user defined exclusion rules. Standalone with UpSol JUME Editor. Professional version with automatic constraint generator. Check of consistency and spectra prediction Automatically answers the question whether a given pair of structure and spectrum are mutually consistent and predicts the spectrum of the structure provided. This very fast check algorithms significantly increase the performance of screening techniques. Other applications are the quality control of spectroscopic databases or the integration in LIMS. Covers 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR, and MS. Information system UpSol SpecTool: Provides a wide variety of data, sample spectra, background information and calculation utilities for interactive structure elucidation problems. Covers 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR, MS, and UV/VIS methods.
